English rock band Pink Floyd released their best-selling album, The Dark Side of the Moon, on March 1, 1973. The album mostly focused on the pressures that band members experienced due to their lifestyle choices as well as the mental health issues former band member Syd Barrett faced.

As a concept album, The Dark Side of the Moon discussed issues that focused on time, death, mental health, conflict, and greed. It's one of the most critically acclaimed albums of all time, and its success helped bring Pink Floyd international fame.

It was certified 14 times platinum in the United Kingdom and topped the US Billboard charts, where it spent a total of 958 weeks. The album sold more than 45 million copies and was the band's most successful album. It was also one of the best-selling albums ever.

The Library of Congress preserved the album in the United States National Recording Registry in 2013 for being historically and culturally relevant.
