Bat Out Of Hell is the best-selling album of American rock singer Meatloaf. It’s also Meatloaf’s debut album with composer Jim Steinman. Inspiration for the album came from a musical called Neverland, which was a futuristic rock version of the classic movie Peter Pan that Steinman wrote in 1974.
The album was recorded at various studios from 1975-1976 and was released in October 1977 by Cleveland International/Epic Records. The album’s musical style was influenced by some of Steinman’s favorite musicians, including The Who, Bruce Springsteen, Phil Spector, and Richard Wagner.
Bat Out Of Hell sold over 50 million copies, making it one of the best-selling albums of all time. It’s 14 times certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America and spent 522 weeks on the UK Albums Chart, which is the second-longest run ever by an album. It was ranked number 343 on the Rolling Stone’s list of the 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.
